At NeedANotary.Com, Stripe flows the payment from the customer to the notary. We have intentionally programmed Stripe to allow notaries the full control over their accounts. When you sign up at NeedANotary.Com, you are required to create a Stripe account that connects to NeedANotary.Com’s platform. In this way, all of your information is contained within a Stripe account that you control and none of your information is passed on to NeedANotary.Com. Our Stripe accounts are connected via a “token” (unique code) that does not contain any of your personal bank information. We chose this independent set-up to not only keep your personal information safe and secure but to keep it within your control.

NeedANotary.Com wants customers’ and notaries’ information to be safe on the internet. We utilize well-known and secure systems like SiteLock and Stripe to keep your information and our site safe because they are the experts in their respective fields and because they employ the best avenues in internet security. We employ them to provide security so that we can focus on serving the customers with all their notary needs.

NAN has been actively seeking notaries to sign up for the website as part of our Phase 1 process to obtain coverage for Customers seeking your notary service.

We are gaining momentum! Yay!

In this article, I will give some insight on how you can set up your Service Area to accurately identify the area you cover so that NAN will provide you customer requests that match your area of coverage.

The Service Area is located under “Your Info” section of your account.

When you sign up, the zip code you enter automatically is entered into your service area database. Each zip code entered is coded to cover a 5-mile radius. To understand what a 5-mile radius might cover, here is an example of a 5-mile radius for zip code 90001 (this is taken from Free Maps Tools which is a really great free resource):

You can see that a 5-mile radius of zip code 90001 also covers other zip codes (and in this example, it also covers cities other than Los Angeles).

NeedANotary.Com allows you to add as many zip codes as you like to help you expand your coverage area. You can do this on the Service Area section of your NAN account.

You can use the Free Map Tools site to query your particular zip codes and see how multiple zip codes will overlap to cover the entire area you want to service. Then add those zip codes to your Service Area and WALA! you will be set to receive requests from Customers seeking notaries in that area!

Registering on NeedANotary

NOTARY REGISTRATION on NEEDANOTARY.COM

Registering on NeedANotary.Com is easy! When you go to the site, www.needanotary.com, make sure you click on the “Are you A Notary?” tab and enter your zip code, name, and email. Be sure to review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, check the box and hit the Submit button.

You will receive an email to continue the Registration process.

When you click on the “here,” you will be taken to the Security page of your profile to change your password.

You are now ready to begin the four required steps to complete the registration process. NOTE: You can do these in any order you wish, but all must be completed to submit quotes on customer requests.

Required Item 1 – Connect a Stripe Account.

Stripe is the system that allows NeedANotary.Com to transfer your payment to you. To quote on customer requests, you need to connect an account to our platform. On NeedANotary, click on “Your Info” and select “Your Profile Info.” To be sent to Stripe to create and connect your account, click on “Connect To Stripe.”

You will be temporarily taken off NeedANotary.Com site and directed to Stripe.Com.

You will need to fill out the information requested and provide your bank account..

Once you complete, you will be redirected back to NeedANotary.Com and will have to log in. Go back to “Your Info” and “Your Profile” to confirm you have successfully connected to Stripe. NOTE: the only information we receive from Stripe is this token id like depicted below. We have no access to your Stripe account. It belongs solely to you.

Required Item 2 – Upload a W9 Form.

On the “Your Profile” page, scroll down to where you see buttons to download, upload, and view the W9. NeedANotary.Com needs to have a W9 on file so that we can submit 1099s to you each January (when you earn $600 or more). You can download and complete the form provided (it’s fillable) or obtain one of your own. Please complete, save, and upload the form. When finished, be sure to click “Save Changes.”

Required Item 3 – Upload a signed Agreement.

You can follow the same instructions as the W9 to download a copy of the Agreement between you, the Notary Public, and NeedANotary.Com. The Form is fillable, and it is ok to type in your name as the signature. Save the form for your files and upload onto NeedANotary.Com.

Required Item 4 – Notary Commission information.

To operate as a Notary Public on NeedANotary.Com, you must provide your commission number, state, bond number, and expiration date. We verify notary commissions before we allow you to provide quotes for notary services. You can provide this information by clicking on “Your Info” and select “My Notary Info.”

These are the Required items to begin the quoting process! Feel free to complete the other items on your profile and upload your picture. We have a browse page where customers can search for you.

NOTE: Our website is nationwide. We do not publicly provide your last name, phone number, or address (other than zip code location). We require you not to provide personal contact information within your public profile (this is in the agreement you signed). We will share your contact information when a customer has booked (and paid for) your service. At that point you and the customer will get each other’s contact information.
